Description
Killermont House, located in Bearsden, Glasgow, is a Classical mansion primarily built in 1805, now serving as a golf club house. The building is 2-storey with a raised basement and features an L-plan layout with a prominent central section that has a pediment, alongside a 2-storey, 6-bay wing to the east. The exterior is constructed of ashlar stone with rubble at the rear, showcasing a base course, a band course above the basement, cill courses, an eaves course, and a dentilled cornice. The windows on the ground floor have floating cornices, while the outer bays are topped with pediments. There is also a later 2-storey stone extension at the re-entrant angle to the rear.
The principal elevation is symmetrical, featuring a central flight of steps that leads to an Ionic tetrastyle portico. This portico is adorned with 2-leaf panelled exterior entrance doors, which include a fanlight above and sidelights, as well as part-glazed 2-leaf interior entrance doors, all topped by a dentilled pediment.
Inside, as observed in 2013, the public rooms are decorated with cornicing. There is a dog-leg stair with decorative metal balusters and a timber handrail, along with architraved, panelled timber doors and some decorative fire surrounds. The upper floor to the south has been converted into an open-plan locker area. The building predominantly features non-timber replacement plate glass sash and case windows, a piended roof covered with grey slates, and wallhead stacks.
