Description

Ralston Golf Clubhouse, dating from around 1800, is a golf clubhouse located in a Classical building that was originally used as stables. It features a single storey, seven-bay structure with a pediment, which is connected to a two-storey, five-bay building at the rear (south) and includes a large single-storey extension from the 1970s to the west, along with smaller extensions to the south. The exterior is made of squared and pinned sandstone rubble, with some smooth ashlar margins, a base course, and a cornice. The building has raised margins and Doric pilasters that separate the bays, with clasping pilasters at the corners.

The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical with an advanced pedimented central bay flanked by clasping corner Doric pilasters. The entrance features a modern part-glazed door set in a Venetian opening with sidelights and flanking pilasters. The ground level has rectangular window openings, with small paired blocked former openings above that are adorned with central Doric columns. The eastern side has a pedimented gable, and there is a late 20th-century single-storey linking corridor to the south.

The building to the south is a single bay structure with a timber entrance door on the far left, which has a fanlight and sidelights. To the right, there are segmental-arched openings. The south elevation has small paired blocked former openings with central Doric columns in the upper half.

The windows on the north side are predominantly replacement plate glass timber sash and case windows, with some 4-over-4 pane timber sash and case windows in the upper storey of the rear property, along with other multi-pane windows. The roof is covered with grey slates and features gable stacks with decorative cans.

The interior has been comprehensively modernised, as observed in 2013.
