Description
This building, including the outbuildings at 16-20 Lainshaw Street, dates from the earlier to mid 19th century. It is a two-storey and attic, three-bay classical commercial structure with shops on the ground floor. The street-facing elevation is finished in painted ashlar, while the rear is constructed from rubble. It features a base course, a cornice above the shops, and another cornice at the top. The first-floor windows have deep, moulded architraves with panelled cills, and there are two piend roofed dormers that are slate-hung.
The entrance is off-centre and consists of a recessed, two-leaf, eight-panel timber door with a fanlight above, leading to a flat above. To the right, there is a pilastered shop front. The entrance includes two-leaf, eight-panel timber storm doors and a part-glazed entrance door with a fanlight above. The shop front to the left is a later symmetrical addition. A unifying cornice runs across the building.
Most of the first-floor windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, while the attic features 4-pane timber sash and case windows. The ground floor has plate glass and replacement small-pane windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are replacement red brick gablehead stacks and raised skews, along with a Velux rooflight.
The interior has been partially viewed, but other access was not possible as of 2008. The ground floor has been altered for commercial use, revealing bare stone walls.
There are outbuildings located at the rear of the property.
