Description
Sornhill Farm is an L-shaped building featuring a circular stair in the corner that rises to full height within a rectangular turret topped with a crow-stepped attic. The main wing was originally three stories but has been converted to two stories by raising the upper floor. A datestone above the chimney in the attic dates to 1683 and bears the initials R.N. and B.N., while another datestone from 1799 features the initials A.N. The external walls are partly creamwashed and patched with cement, with simple stone window frames that have edge-rolls. The roof is covered with slate and has crow-stepped gables. The ground floor kitchen retains an original arched fireplace recess. Adjoining the main building is a range of late 18th-century byres. The rear facade is symmetrical, featuring recessed triple panels and a Palladian motif.
