Description
Terfyn Farmhouse is an L-shaped house, with the earlier east/west range being two low storeys or 1½ storeys high. A north wing of two storeys has been added to this. The exterior is made of stonework that is rendered and painted white, topped with slate roofs. The main range features a very large stone end chimney on the west side with significant offsets. The earlier range has one window on the north side and two windows along with a door on the south side, plus a small dormer window.
The north wing contains three chimneys: one at the north end, another near the junction with the lower range, and a stone lateral chimney on the east side, which is noted in the interior description as being dated 1577. The west elevation has two windows and a door located behind a modern porch. The east elevation, including the gable end of the earlier range, is irregular, featuring three windows above and two below.
Most windows have been replaced, generally recently, but on the south and east sides, there are three horizontally sliding sash windows that likely date from the 19th century.
The interior was not inspected during the latest survey. However, it was noted in 1962 to have deep window reveals with heavy wood lintels. The stairs have been altered and are modern. The building features stopped bevelled joists and bevelled beams. There is a ground floor stone mantel with a date on the corbels of 1577, and an arch-braced roof truss at the centre of the north wing. The earlier main range is said to have a through passage with studded partitions, a door leading to the hall, and twin doors to pantries, one of which retains an obtuse angled head. On the first floor, there is a stone mantel with the original hearth stone and corbels, although the opening has been filled in. The ground floor hall has a fireplace with a heavy beam.
