Description
84 Main Street is a cottage built in the later 18th century, with some alterations and likely an early 20th century addition at the rear. It is a single storey and attic structure featuring four bays, with early 20th century bargeboarded dormers in the attic and gablehead stacks. The exterior is constructed from random sandstone rubble with sandstone ashlar dressings, and the front is finished with painted roughcast render. The building has long and short quoins and raised margins around the windows.
The central entrance consists of a 20th century timber-boarded front door, flanked by two windows on the left and a bipartite window on the right. There are two dormers in the attic. The windows are primarily plate glass in timber sash and case frames, although the dormers have non-traditional uPVC glazing. There is an ashlar stack on the west side and a brick stack with octagonal yellow clay cans on the east. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, and it features cast-iron rainwater goods.
