Description

90 Main Street in Dunlop is a two-storey, rectangular-plan tenement building dating from around 1820, with later alterations. The structure consists of a three-bay house on the right (Nos 86 and 88), a two-bay wing in the center (Nos 88 and 90), and a former cheese store on the left, which has been converted to residential use. The exterior features painted, rendered sandstone with painted sandstone ashlar dressings, and sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings on the former cheese store. Notable architectural details include a base course, eaves cornice, raised quoin strips, and raised door and window margins for Nos 88 and 90. The windows of Nos 86 and 88 have moulded architraves.

The fenestration is regular for Nos 86 and 88, with a non-traditional uPVC door in a recessed porch at No 86, supported by fluted Doric columns and an architrave with a blocking course. Nos 88 and 90 have irregular fenestration, featuring later timber-boarded doors and a tripartite window at ground level. There are mid-20th century additions to the rear. The former cheese store has a sliding timber-boarded garage door at ground level, a window (originally a door), and a slit window on the first floor, along with a 2003-2004 extension on the outer left.

The windows predominantly consist of plate glass in timber sash and case frames. The building has corniced stacks with thack-stanes and predominantly octagonal yellow clay cans, along with ashlar-coped skews and graded grey slate roofing.

Inside, Nos 88 and 90 feature half-glazed timber-panelled lobby doors with decorative frosted glass, while No 88 has plain cornicing throughout.

The property is enclosed by a coped random rubble boundary wall in front of No 86, spear-headed railings and a gate leading to the street, and chamfered sandstone ashlar gatepiers with rounded tops. There is also a rubble and brick boundary wall at the rear.
