Description

The Former Valentines Office, located at 152-154 Perth Road in Dundee, dates from around 1830 to 1840. This building consists of a pair of two-storey and basement, three-bay houses that were connected in 1880 by architects James Ireland and James MacLaren to serve as offices for James Valentine and Son. The front of the building is made of ashlar stone, while the sides are constructed from rubble.

On the north elevation, there are two two-storey, three-bay houses featuring margined windows, with one window later altered to a door. The central doors are consoled and corniced, with the door on the right changed to a window in 1880. The infilling bay in the center is defined by channelled pilaster strips added in 1880, and it features a consoled and pedimented door flanked by windows, with the first floor showcasing a tripartite window in a lugged architrave. The building is topped with a cornice and parapet that includes a small consoled pedimented feature.

The south elevation appears as three storeys due to the slope of the land, with No 154 featuring canted end bays added around 1860. The center of this elevation is advanced and has a tripartite window from 1880. The building has rubble-built gable-end stacks and slate roofs, with a long industrial skylight inserted at No 154. The windows are sash and case style, most of which have a late 19th-century two-pane pattern.

Inside, there is a twin Corinthian columned entrance hall.
