Description
13 Crichton Street in Dundee is a three-storey and attic, four-bay commercial building designed in the Jacobean style by William James Anderson from Glasgow in 1892. The building features a modern shopfront on the ground floor, which conceals part of an earlier structure at the rear. It is constructed of red brick with polychrome detailing on the second floor and has a red tile roof.
The front elevation includes a modern shopfront across the three left-hand bays at ground level. Above, there is a six-light continuous window on the first floor, where the original astragalled windows have been replaced with plate glass, and this is topped by a deep consoled entablature. The second floor has three multi-paned oriel windows set within round-headed arches. To the right, there is a moulded round-headed doorcase leading to a stair entrance, paired round-headed windows in a moulded round-headed panel on the first floor, and an elongated multi-pane window on the second floor with a margined and corniced design, along with tripartite blind arcading above. The second floor is capped by a corbelled main cornice, and at the center right, a large shaped gable rises from the parapet, featuring two segmental windows. To the left, there is a small gable with a round-headed window and a stack at the apex, and to the right, a segmental dormer.
Inside, the interior is plain, featuring a newel stair that leads to the upper floors.
