Janitor's House, 44 Milton Road, Kirkcaldy

The Janitor's House, located at 44 Milton Road in Kirkcaldy, was designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson in 1876. This single-storey and attic building features a two-bay gabled design. It is constructed from rock-faced rubble with dressed ashlar quoins. Notable architectural details include a pointed-arch window, relieving arches, chamfered reveals, and stone mullions.

On the north elevation, there is a broad advanced gable to the right, which contains a modern door and a small window above it. To the right, there is a stair window, and another window is located to the left in the gablehead. A window is also present in the bay to the left.

The south elevation features a dominant, slightly advanced full-height shouldered stack, which is raised in dry-dash and located to the right of center. To the left, there is a flat-roofed extension, and above this, a pedimented stone dormer window.

The east elevation consists of a single gabled bay with a piended slate roof. It has a canted tripartite window at the ground level and a small window above it, which features a blind cusp-trefoil head in a pointed-arch opening.

The west elevation also has a single gabled bay with a window at the ground level, along with a low flat-roofed extension to the left.

The windows are timber sash and case, featuring small-pane over 2- and 4-pane glazing patterns. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there is a coped harled stack with cans. The building has ashlar-coped stepped skews and cast-iron downpipes with decorative fixings.
