22, 24 Whitehall Street, Dundee

Dated 1885, 22 and 24 Whitehall Street are a four-storey and attic, five-bay commercial building. The building is constructed of cream sandstone ashlar with a grey slate Mansard roof. The ground floor features modillioned and corniced detailing along with an open-work parapet above. A lintel band runs along the first floor, while the three central bays have a consoled balcony on the second floor, incorporating a decorative cast-iron parapet. A cill band is visible on the second floor and a consoled and modillioned main cornice sits above this. The corniced wallhead course features a balustraded parapet. The windows are single and canted, with architraved surrounds. Pilasters are present on the first floor, colonette nook shafts and pilasters on the second floor, and shouldered volutes on the third floor. The windows have two-pane timber sash and case glazing. A pilaster is situated at the right-hand angle, topped with a swagged urn finial, while corbelled and corniced ridge stacks are also present.

The front elevation has a mask-keystoned round-headed doorway at the centre, incorporating a two-leaf panelled door and a pilastered doorpiece with an open pediment. The tympanum features a cartouche date panel. The shopfronts to the left and right have been altered. The first three floors each have three single windows at the centre, flanked by canted windows in the outer bays. Three round-headed dormers, each with a bipartite window, are located to the left and right. The interior of the building has not been inspected. The building's design relates to 7 and 9 Whitehall Street. The statutory address is 14-24 (even numbers) Whitehall Street.
