242 Broughty Ferry Road, Dundee

242 Broughty Ferry Road is a semi-detached villa built around 1900 to 1905 by Hutton and Tough. The building is two stories high and constructed from coursed rubble, featuring American-influenced verandahs and woodwork.

On the southeast elevation, there are twin central porches with Tuscan columns, set back between five-light canted bays, all beneath a broad slate-roofed verandah. The first floor has projecting six-light windows that are flanked by timber baluster balconies.

The sides of the villa include single-storey projecting bays with piend roofs, and conservatories that fill the re-entrant angle. The conservatory on the west side is original, while the one on the east is a modern replacement. The first floor features oriel windows with slate-hung aprons.

The roofs are slate with tiled ridges, and there are ashlar wallhead stacks. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with six panes in the upper cases and a single pane in the lower cases. The glazing on No 242 is modern. There is a low boundary wall along the street, with railings present only at No 240.
