Description
Orphanage Bridge, located on Fishdock Road in Stannergate, Dundee, dates from 1845. This single-span road bridge is set at an angle over the railway, forming a Z-plan with its approaches. It is constructed of snecked rubble, featuring pink and buff sandstone, with an ashlar-coped parapet and bull-faced voussoirs. There is a band course situated just below the springing point. The bridge has four segmental-arched ribs, numbered at E, and the parapet is corbelled at the southeast re-entrant. The approach ramps have round-coped walls, although the parapet has been partially removed on both sides facing the railway.
