Description

Claremont Lodge, located at 47 Grove Road in Dundee, is a single-storey and attic classical-style lodge designed by W B D Keith (also known as Vernon Constable) in 1921. The building features a square plan and is constructed of sandstone ashlar with snecked rubble at the recessed window panels, topped with a grey slate roof. Architectural details include a base course, an entablature with a moulded architrave, a cornice, and a blocking course. The lodge has 12-pane sash and case windows, semi-circular leaded lunette-dormers with small-pane casements in the attic, and a pyramidal roof with a corniced apex stack and four uniform cans.

The south elevation is symmetrical with three bays. It features a central six-panel, two-leaf door with a fanlight and a moulded doorcase, supported by an engaged Ionic column doorpiece that holds up a slightly advanced entablature, with a lunette-dormer above. Windows are positioned in slightly recessed rectangular panels to the left and right of the door.

On the north elevation, there is a door with a fanlight in a recessed panel to the left, with a window adjoining on the right. A round-headed multi-pane stair window is centered, complete with a cornice and a parapet that breaks through the entablature, while a blank panel is located to the right.

Both the east and west elevations feature two windows in slightly recessed panels similar to the south elevation, with lunette-dormers above.

The boundary wall to the east includes two capped gatepiers, and there are two additional gatepiers with mannered caps forming a quadrant.

Inside, the lodge retains original chimneypieces and features a scale and platt staircase with timber geometric design balusters.
