Description
Milton Bank, located at 8 Ellieslea Road in Dundee, is a later 19th-century villa that features additions from 1911, likely by Charles Ower and Co. The building is designed in an L-plan and consists of two storeys with a three-storey and attic addition. It is constructed from sandstone coursers, snecked rubble, and has ashlar dressings, topped with a grey slate roof. The exterior includes painted quoins and canted windows on the ground floor to the south, as well as keystoned architraves on the first floor. The windows are plate glass sash and case, and the building is adorned with a corniced blocking course, corniced stacks with decorative cans, and a piended roof.
On the west elevation, there is a central entrance porch featuring a keystoned and pilastered round-headed window with stained glass on the ground floor, and a bipartite window on the first floor. To the right, there is a keystoned and pilastered doorpiece with a fanlight and window. A three-storey and attic bay on the left has tripartite windows on each floor, and segmental bipartite dormer windows set in a high parapet with ball finials and scalloped flashings. There is also a single-storey bay at the far left with a bipartite window on the ground floor and a raised ridge rooflight. To the far right, a recessed bay features a sculpted female figure in a moulded round-headed niche on the ground floor, with a window above.
The south elevation is symmetrical with five bays. The central bay has a tripartite canted window with a panelled base course and moulded parapet, along with a bipartite window on the first floor. There are round-headed doors with margins and large-pane fanlights on both the left and right sides, and ornate cast-iron bracketed balconies at the first-floor windows. The bays on the far left and right mirror the central bay, although the right bay also includes a canted first-floor window with a dentilled cornice.
The north elevation features an advanced gable bay on the left and stepped single-storey projections on the right, with various doors and windows throughout.
Surrounding the property are rubble walls with round coping on the south, east, and west sides, along with two pyramidal capped gatepiers on the west.
