Spring Grove Cottage, 170 Nethergate, Dundee

Spring Grove Cottage is a late 18th-century, two-storey and basement, three-bay house located at 170 Nethergate in Dundee. The front features tooled sandstone ashlar, while the east gable is finished with dry dash. The roof is covered with grey slate. Architectural details include a band course at the first floor, an eaves course, and rusticated quoins. The front elevation has margined windows with four-pane timber sash and case glazing, which are taller on the first floor, and twelve-pane windows at the rear. The skews are ashlar-coped with skew blocks, and there are dry-dashed end stacks.

On the front elevation, there is a central doorpiece with an architrave and cornice, flanked by a window on each side, and three windows on the first floor. The rear elevation features oculi at the basement below a former door, along with various windows.

Inside, the basement retains early fittings, including a range, sinks, boarded lining, shelved pantries, and a wine cellar. The staircase is not original, but some original chimneypieces and cornices remain.

The property is enclosed by low coped masonry walls at the front, with some metal railings on the right, and high rubble-built boundary walls to the south and east.
