Description

2 Kinghorne Road in Dundee is a two-storey moderne shop and commercial building designed by William Patrick in 1934. It is situated on a sloping corner site with a chamfered angle and features ashlar fronts.

The elevation facing Hilltown has a tall ground floor shopfront surrounded by black vitrolite and accented with metal horizontal strips. The first floor showcases a tripartite window that wraps around the corner in a long horizontal design.

On the elevation to Kinghorne Road, there are two recessed bays, with a corniced double door and a twin stair window above. The shopfront to the right, which is now a social club, has been blocked, but retains a tripartite window above.

The building has a flat roof with projecting eaves, and twin wallhead stacks flanking the stair. It features original glazing patterns, including large panes in the shops and diamond panes above the doors. The first floor and the elevation to Kinghorne Road also include small metal-framed casement and top-hopper windows.
