Description
55 High Street in Dumfries is an earlier 19th century, late Georgian, three-storey corner building that currently houses shops. It features a long eight-bay elevation facing Assembly Street, two bays on High Street, and a single bay in a curved corner that includes the main entrance. The shop front has late 19th century polished granite pilasters, and the main door is topped with a sculptured red ashlar pediment. Above the ground floor, the building has painted ashlar and architraves, with corniced windows on the first floor and a string course at the cill levels of both the first and second floors. The glazing is modern, and the building has a cornice, cut-down stacks, and a slate roof.
