Description
The County Hotel, located at 79 High Street in Dumfries, is an earlier 18th century two-storey, five-bay town house. The ground floor has been altered, and two upper storeys were likely added around 1860. The original structure was demolished between 1984 and 1985, but the facade was retained, and the remainder of the building was rebuilt using a steel frame. The timber panelling from "Prince Charlie's room" has largely been reinstated and painted. The facade features painted render with ashlar dressings, rusticated quoins, and first-floor architraves from the original house. It includes a central door within a doorcase, sash windows, and an iron railing over the cornice of the original building, topped with a slate roof.
