Description
38-40 High Street in Elie is an earlier 19th-century building that has been altered at the ground floor. It is two stories tall, featuring a rendered ground floor and a rubble first floor with painted droved ashlar dressings. The front facing High Street has three windows, arranged in a 1-1-1 pattern, with a pilastered doorpiece located beneath the second window. There is a modern shop front, with stop-chamfered shop windows on either side of the corner. A door is located on the left side of the east gable, with a first-floor window above it on the right. The building has a gabled, slated roof with straight skews and droved ashlar stacks. The original glazing remains intact on the first floor and in the Victorian corner shop windows.
