Description
South Lodge, part of Craigielands House, is a single-storey, three-bay gate lodge dating from approximately 1817 and designed by William Burn. The lodge faces south and has a piend roof. It is constructed of squared whin rubble, with painted ashlar raised quoins and chamfered reveals. There are advanced gables on each long wall, and a central, open, pedimented porch on the south side. Mullioned windows are present in the outer bays and end walls. The eaves are blocked, and there’s a central axial stack with paired octagonal flues. The roof is slate-covered. The four wide, square gate piers, set back from the roadside, are constructed of painted ashlar with projecting caps, and they support plain cast-iron gates. The lodge is one of a pair of identical structures. It was unoccupied in 1987.
