Description
North Lodge, Craigielands House, is a circa 1817 gate lodge designed by William Burn. It is a single-storey, three-bay building with a piend roof facing north. The lodge was renovated around 1980, incorporating modern glazing and a rebuilt axial stack. The exterior is constructed of squared whin rubble, laid in graded courses, with painted ashlar raised quoins and chamfered reveals. It has advanced gables on each long wall, featuring open pedimented porches, and mullioned windows in the outer bays and end walls. The eaves are blocked, and the roof is slate-covered.
The gatepiers originally consisted of four wide, square piers with projecting caps. They are set back from the roadside and constructed of painted ashlar. The two inner piers, together with the original gates, have been removed to provide access to a caravan park. North Lodge is one of a pair of identical lodges.
