Description
This is a mid-19th century former stationmaster's house, originally a single storey with an attic and three bays. It had a central front door and single windows in the outer bays, with steeply-pitched, high dormers over the first-floor windows. The building was constructed of whin rubble with painted ashlar margins and hood moulds. It featured small-paned sash windows and end stacks. The roof was covered in slate. A low, broad-eaved rear wing extended from the main building, characterised by enlarged windows. The building is of Group Value due to its connection to the railway network and similar houses were designed for other stations, such as that at Carstairs. Beattock Station itself has since been demolished; the statutory address is Former Stationmaster’s House, Beattock Village.
