Description

T C McCreath is a house dating from around 1800, located at 30-32 Victoria Street in Newton Stewart. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with a shop situated on the ground floor to the right. The exterior is made of finely dressed granite with whinstone pinnings that are cherry-caulked.

The front of the building is symmetrical, featuring a shallow advanced centre bay with a nepus gable. Monolithic granite columns with primitive caps support a cornice above the entrance door. The entrance consists of a panelled door with a fanlight above it. To the right of the door, there are two wide plate-glass windows flanking the shop door, while to the left, there is a single window. The first floor has three regularly spaced windows, all of which are sash and case style with two-pane plate glass glazing.

The building has an eaves cornice and a small nepus gable at the centre, topped with a granite stack and a lotus can. The roofs are slate, featuring a skylight and two rooflights, along with corniced end stacks that have some lotus or fluted cans. The flank of the building is made of painted rubble.
