Description
These stables, part of Capenoch House, date primarily to the earlier 19th century, though they have undergone significant alterations and rebuilding, including work in 1914. The buildings form an asymmetrical courtyard stable block constructed around a natural hollow.
The stables are rubble-built, with neatly coursed stonework on the west side, and feature ashlar dressings. The west, north, and south ranges are single-storey with basements overlooking the courtyard. Access to the basement level is through a segmental-arched pend in the east range. The west and north ranges have been converted into cottages. The north range includes segmental-arched cartways leading into the courtyard and to the east end of the north wall. The inner part of the south range has been rebuilt and is buttressed, with outer gables flanking it; the gable to the east has a forestair. The roof is slate.
