Description
Shinnelwood House is a 2-storey, 3-bay villa built around 1880 by architect James Barbour of Dumfries, featuring Gothic architectural elements. The exterior is constructed of stugged red ashlar coursers and dressings, with stop-chamfered reveals.
On the east elevation, the central door and first-floor windows all have pointed heads, with a narrow inner bay that is advanced. The doorway is hood-moulded and has blocked label stops, with a door that features cusped panels and a fanlight. The first-floor windows are situated beneath steep-pitched gabled dormer heads, which have plain barge-boards with cusped framing and a central apex stack. The villa has corniced end stacks and a slate roof with projecting eaves, along with a full-height rear wing.
