Description
The site includes an extensive walled garden area situated to the north and east of Blackwood House. The principal enclosure is roughly quadrangular and adjoins the house, featuring a symmetrical range of glasshouses along the north wall. A further walled enclosure extends to the north, incorporating a castellated former battery on a bastion at the north corner. The high walls are constructed of rubble and have ashlar coping. Additional garden enclosures are found on the east bank of the Nith in Closeburn parish.
