Ecclefechan Hotel, Main Street, Ecclefechan

The Ecclefechan Hotel, on Main Street in Ecclefechan, dates from the late 18th century and was altered in the late 19th century. It comprises two originally separate ranges, each initially three bays wide. The western range is two storeys high with a central doorway. A fourth bay was later added. The eastern range is three storeys high and incorporates a late 18th century two-storey house. Tripartite sash windows have been inserted into the ground floor outer bays, and the original central doorway is now a window. The exterior is harled with contrasting painted ashlar or rendered margins; most windows are small-paned sashes. The building has corniced end stacks and a slate roof. The rear elevation is asymmetrical. The building was re-categorized from Category B to Category C(S) on 4 October 1988.
