Description
The building at 2 Church Street, Ecclefechan, is a cottage dated 1778. It is a single-story structure originally comprising three bays, with a later addition to the south. The cottage is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, and it has been whitewashed with painted margins. The front features a centrally located recessed panelled door topped with a fanlight, and sash windows with four panes of glass in each sash. The roof is steeply pitched and slated, with coped end stacks and stone ridging. A later addition, incorporating a door and a dovecot flight-hole, extends to the main eaves level but has a shallower roof pitch. A door lintel is dated 1778 and also bears the initials "JH".
