1 Garthwaite Place, High Street, Ecclefechan

This is an earlier or mid-19th century row of buildings on High Street, Ecclefechan, though it is not a single construction. It comprises two ranges, each approximately three bays wide, sharing a common roof. The western range has two first-floor windows and a three-bay shop front.

Both ranges have corniced ground floor openings and a main door situated slightly left of centre. The buildings are constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, although the margins are painted. They feature mainly small-paned sash windows. There are end and axial chimney stacks, two of which have been rebuilt in brick. A spike finial tops the eastern gable, and the roof is covered with graded slates.

The building’s category was changed from B to C(S) on 4 October 1988. The statutory address is Ecclefechan Village, High Street, Garthwaite Place, and includes the former premises of Creelman (Painter) and Mrs Horsburgh.
