Description

12 and 14 George Street in Whithorn is a good two-storey house dating from around 1800. It features three bays and was possibly originally designed with a shop on the ground floor. The building is constructed from rubble with cement-rendered margins, a basecourse, and banded quoins.

The ground floor has a central doorway with a blocked door to the left. There are steps leading up to a recessed depressed-arch door. The windows are all single light, sash and case, with plate glass 2-pane glazing on the ground floor and 12-pane glazing on the first floor. The house has sandstone skews and skewblocks, along with a sandstone ridge. It is topped with tall coped axial stacks and has slate roofs.

The rear elevation is irregular and includes a single-storey rubble lean-to projection, with a stair window located at the center. The windows at the back feature small and 4-pane glazing patterns. Additionally, there is a tall rubble boundary wall at the rear.
