Description

Caitloch is a house dating to approximately 1860, which incorporates an earlier structure, likely from the 18th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay building constructed of rubble with red ashlar dressings, much of it now covered in ivy. The east elevation displays the original house, with a central ground floor window replacing an earlier doorway, and four-pane sash windows. Small turrets corbel out from the corners, connected by a crenellated parapet featuring a decorative scalloped corbel course, with original end stacks remaining. A two-storey square tower and a linking bay form an addition to the original house. A shallow porch is incorporated into the linking bay, featuring a Tudor-arched door and a parapet with brackets; a first floor window is set within a gablet dormer head. The tower has corbelled and crenellated angle turrets and a crenellated parapet, with tripartite windows on each floor. A shaped stack sits on a projecting and corbelled base, and a full-height, two-bay rear wing extends from the main structure. Slate roofs cover the building.

The interior of the original section includes a pilastered and round-arched doorcase in the dining room, a wide Tudor-arched link connecting it to the addition, and a rebuilt wooden stair. The drawing room within the tower features a marble chimney piece and a ribbed ceiling paper.

The property is approached through castellated, circular, red ashlar gate piers, with pedestrian gates flanking the main entrance. A curved low coping connects the gate piers to terminal piers and simple iron gates and railings enclose the grounds.
