Description

Dated 1828, Renwick's Monument is a painted ashlar gothic monument situated within an iron-railed enclosure. The monument features stepped diagonal buttresses supporting a crocketted pinnacle, all raised above a high square base. The base also has diagonal buttresses and a hood-moulded Tudor-arched panel on each face, with an inscription on the south face. Renwick, who the monument commemorates, was born nearby in 1662 at the farm of Neiss. The monument is documented in Russel's Book of Dumfriesshire (1964) and J. Corrie's Glencairn (1910), as well as the New Statistical Account.
