Description
Barbuie is an early 19th century farmhouse with a courtyard steading adjoining it. The farmhouse is a 2-storey, 3-bay structure with an attic. It is built of rubble and mostly whitewashed, with painted contrasting margins to the stonework. The south elevation features a central door recessed beneath a gabled, rustic porch. The farmhouse has sash windows with either 8 or 12 panes of glazing, a cornice, and two piended, canted dormers. Straight skews, end stacks, and a roof covered in graded slates complete the south-facing elevation.
The steading comprises two rectangular blocks arranged in an L-shape to form a courtyard, which is linked to a rear wing of the farmhouse. The north-facing barn has two partially blocked segmental-arched cartways and small loft openings above. The courtyard is entered from the south, adjacent to a plain rectangular range extending from the west gable of the house. The roofs of both the farmhouse and steading are mostly slated.
A 1765 datestone has been re-set into the south gable of the steading.
