Description

The King's Arms Hotel, located at 29 High Street in Lockerbie, is likely a late 18th-century building that originally served as a three-storey, three-bay inn. It is aligned with Victoria Road and features a public house entrance, along with a long rear section that was not constructed as a single unit. The front of the building was remodeled in the late 19th or early 20th century, showcasing applied black-painted timber framing that contrasts with the white harling. The remodel includes red ashlar dressings around the large central doorway and the margins of the ground floor windows. Above the ground floor, the windows are unmargined, and there is a near full-length balcony at the first floor, with individual balconies for each window on the second floor. The building has bracketed eaves and straight skews, with skew end moulding running horizontally beneath the panelled and corniced end stacks. The roof is slate-covered. The rear range displays an asymmetrical elevation that follows an irregular datestone dated 1797.
