Description
This late 19th century cottage at 78 Main Street, Kirkcolm, is a single storey and attic structure with three bays, forming part of a terrace. The exterior is harled with painted dressings that include tabbed margins, channelled quoin strips, and a base course.
On the east elevation facing Main Street, there is a panelled door with a letter-box fanlight at the center, flanked by bipartite windows in the outer bays. Above these outer bays are piended dormer windows.
The south elevation is adjoined to No 76 Main Street, while the north elevation is adjoined to No 80 Main Street. The cottage features sash and case windows, with 6-pane upper sashes and plate glass lower sashes, and small-pane glazing in the dormer windows. The gable ends have coped skew and there are gablehead stacks on both the north and south sides. The roof is covered with purple slates and has octagonal cans.
The property is enclosed by a low rendered boundary wall that surrounds a small garden to the east and is continuous with the boundary wall of No 76 Main Street to the south. The railings have been removed.
