Description
This is an earlier 19th century crossroads smithy and cottage. The building consists of a single-storey, three-bay cottage with a recessed wing to the east that has a lower roof pitch. A rear wing to the north adjoins the eastern wing, creating an L-shaped arrangement. The cottage is constructed of rubble and has a whitewashed exterior with contrasting painted ashlar margins. The roof is covered with graded slates.
The cottage features deeply-chamfered reveals, a boarded door with a trellised porch, and sash windows with a four-pane glazing pattern. It has pedimented gables, straight skews, a coped central axial stack, and a single end stack. The west gable is bipartite.
The smithy range adjoining the cottage has a single small-paned window facing south, and a wide east gable opening which is partially blocked. A forge is located in the rear wing, below the stack at the south end.
