Description
The churchyard of Luce Church contains a notable 1709 burial vault belonging to the Irving family. The vault is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and is apsidal in shape. A door is located within the pedimented north gable. The vault features a moulded cornice and a shaped coping which rises above the pediment, with a finial surviving above one corner; further remnants are present within the tympanum. An inscribed slab is set within a bolection-moulded surround. Numerous 18th and 19th century headstones are present within the churchyard, many displaying good examples of artisan sculpture. The churchyard is enclosed by a modern wire fence.
