Description
This is a mid-18th century, two-story, three-bay manse, which has undergone alterations and additions. The original building is primarily rubble-built with ashlar margins, most of which are now painted. The east gable and south elevation are harled, and the windows are small-paned sashes throughout. The roof is slate-covered. The south elevation has been altered with 19th-century openings, retaining only two ground-floor bipartites. Original single windows remain in each gable on the first floor, featuring chamfered margins. The moulded main cornice is likely original, as are the skews and end stacks, potentially contemporary with the northeast rear wing, which may date to 1795.
A northeast wing, built around 1840 in the style of Walter Newall, projects from the east gable. It features a recessed panelled entrance door with a small-paned fanlight, and single mullioned windows with lying-panes. A corniced end stack with coped flues is also present. A modern timber porch links low rear ranges to the main building.
To the north is a rectangular-plan barn, likely built in the second half of the 18th century. It’s now partially used as a garage and has square-headed openings and slit ventilators. A walled garden is situated to the west, and a rebuilt gateway incorporates re-used early 19th-century cast-iron railings.
