Fleming House, 21 Main Street, Kirkcowan

Fleming House, located at 21 Main Street, Kirkcowan, is a pair of early 19th-century houses. The building comprises three bays on the right and a wider, single bay to the left. The construction is of painted rubble with painted raised margins, and the central three-bay section is advanced, featuring raised angle margins. A porch is formed over the advanced bay by monolithic granite slabs supporting a crude pediment. To the left of the porch, a door is positioned to the right of a window. All ground-floor openings are round-arched, while the first-floor openings are rectangular, with the window above the door set within round-arched jambs and topped with a gablet. The building has hefty end and axial coped stacks and a good graded slate roof. Windows are fitted with uPVC glazing, though this is considered unauthorised for No. 19, and a stained-glass window is present in No. 21. Modern doors have been installed. The rear elevation includes a timber porch to the ground floor on the left and a single-storey, flat-roofed modern extension to the right. A two-pane casement window is located to the left, and a sash and case window is to the right.
