Fleming House, 19 Main Street, Kirkcowan

Fleming House is a pair of early 19th-century houses situated on Main Street in Kirkcowan. The building comprises three bays to the right and a wide single bay to the left. It is constructed of painted rubble with painted raised margins, and the central three-bay section projects forward, also with raised angle margins. A porch is formed over the advanced bay by monolithic granite slabs supporting a crude pediment. The wide left bay features a door to the right and a window to the left. The ground floor windows are round-arched, while the first-floor windows are rectangular, with the window above the door set within round-arched jambs and a gablet. The building has hefty end and axial coped stacks and a good graded slate roof. uPVC windows have been installed in No. 19, which is considered unauthorised, while No. 21 has a stained glass window. Modern doors are present. The rear elevation shows a timber porch to the ground floor left, and a single-storey, modern, flat-roofed extension to the right. Windows on the rear elevation include a two-pane casement to the left and a sash and case window to the right.
