Description
Grovehill is a double pile house that features an earlier part, which is a plain, south-facing, altered two-storey, three-bay house from the late 18th or early 19th century. An additional north block, built in the earlier 19th century, is a single storey over a basement villa-type structure. The exterior is finished with painted rubble and ashlar dressings, while the ground floor of the south elevation of the addition is rendered. The original house has canted outer bays, which were later extended in the 19th century, and these are linked by a modern sun lounge. The building has end stacks.
The addition faces north and features a bowed east wall, with round-headed windows that have an unusual looped glazing pattern. The north elevation consists of three bays, with the inner bay slightly advanced, showcasing a tetrastyle pilastered and pedimented centerpiece. The former central door has been converted into a window, although the fanlight has been retained, and the steps leading to the basement area have been removed. The windows are designed with pilastered jambs, a base course, a cornice, and a blocking course, topped with a piended roof. The roofs are slated, and there are spiked cast-iron railings above the basement area.
