Description
The mill complex at Cample dates from the late 18th century and consists of a three-storey main block with a loft, featuring six bays. There are two adjoining two-storey ranges at either gable, along with three asymmetrically placed detached rectangular-plan ranges to the west, which were likely added in the first half of the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of whitewashed rubble with ashlar margins around the square-headed door and small-paned window openings.
The main block includes a door with a hoist that serves three levels on the west side. There is a gabled, off-centre shallow addition to the south gable, which has porches and a forestair, as well as two loft ventilators in the gable head. A lean-to on the north side has a five-bay north elevation and four recessed bays extending to the east.
Among the detached ranges, the nearest two-storey, five-bay range, which was formerly used as cottages, has been raised in height and faces roughly north. It features a forestair and a lean-to at the rear, along with end stacks and a large modern shed adjoining it. There is a single-storey cottage facing the shed that is almost parallel, also with end stacks. The remaining range is single-storey, set parallel to the main block, and is linked by a modern shelter.
