Description
The building is a barn located at Laught Mains, likely constructed in the second half of the 18th century. It features a two-storey, three-bay farmhouse and a detached barn to the southeast, situated beyond a steading built around 1830, which is not included in the listing. Both structures are built from rubble with ashlar dressings and have slate roofs.
The farmhouse is painted and has a boulder base. It consists of three unequal bays and has a gabled porch added to the inner bay, probably in the second half of the 19th century. The windows are sash style with small-paned glazing, featuring eight panes on the ground floor and twelve panes above. There is a low northwest wing and a full-height rear wing on the northeast side, which includes a corrugated iron porch in the re-entrant angle. The building has straight skews and corniced end stacks.
The barn, which is now used as a tractor shed, has a rectangular plan and may have been enlarged. It features a large barn door on the long northwest wall, along with modern doors and a lintel, and a doorway alongside. There are slit ventilators in three tiers in the gables. The barn has straight skews and retains fragments of milling machinery inside, along with evidence that a horsemill once adjoined it at the southeast.
