17-21 Friars Vennel, Dumfries

17-21 Friars Vennel in Dumfries is a building likely dating from around 1820, with some alterations made, particularly to the upper floors which were renovated around 1984. The structure has three storeys and an attic, featuring four bays. The exterior is finished in painted droved ashlar, with projecting cills, while the gables and rear elevation are pebble-dashed. The ground floor has pilastered shop fronts, although these are partly obscured by modern fascia boards beneath the cornice. The first-floor sash windows have 12-pane glazing, with modern glazing above. The rear wings of the shop have been built up to create a patio, with an entrance to the upper floors located above this area. There are box dormers on both long elevations. The building has end stacks and a slate roof.
