Description
71 Friars Vennel in Dumfries is an early 19th century building that stands three storeys tall and features a rounded corner. It has three bays facing Friars Vennel and a single bay on Irish Street, with an additional bay in the rounded corner that includes a door leading to a late 19th century public house. The building is constructed of droved red ashlar, with the lower two floors painted. There is a band course above the ground floor, and the public house windows have mostly been enlarged and corniced, while the second-floor windows on Irish Street retain their original sash windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The building has end and axial stacks, a slate roof, and the roof curves over the corner bay. A modern shop has been added at the lower level of the slope on Friars Vennel.
