Description
The Chipperkyle Stables, dating from the early 19th century, are a U-plan stable yard constructed of painted rough rubble. The complex comprises three single-storey ranges, with the range on the right side being higher than the others. The central range features three depressed-arch cart entrances, all under slate roofs. Curved rubble walls form a gateway.
A square-plan, two-storey dovecot stands nearby, also rubble-built with the upper level partially brick-lined. A few nesting boxes remain, and are in poor condition. The dovecot has a pyramidal slate roof with stone skews along the ridges.
The stables and dovecot are designated as a group with Chipperkyle House.
