Description
This is a mid-18th century farmhouse with a courtyard steading, incorporating a notable barn dated 1778. The buildings are constructed of whitewashed rubble with ashlar dressings, and have roofs mainly covered with graded slates.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with three bays, and features a large, wide-gabled wing centrally positioned on the south front. A central porch provides access to the courtyard. Chimneys are located at the ends of the house.
The steading’s western range contains the principal element: a mid-18th century barn with a depressed-arched entranceway blocked by a key stone centrally. Slit ventilators are located on either side of the barn door. An L-shaped range dating from the 19th century adjoins the barn’s north gable. A detached range stands to the east. The steading is listed for the high quality of the barn.
