Barn And Kennels, Cottage, Cairnhill, Springkell

This is a two-story house with an adjoining barn, situated at Cairnhill, Springkell. The buildings date to the mid-18th century, with datestones indicating construction in 1755 and 1784. Whitewashed rubble construction is typical, with ashlar dressings and contrasting painted margins on the house. Slate roofs cap both structures.

The house has three window bays and an off-centre timber porch with a side entrance door. It features skews and single end and axial chimney stacks.

The barn incorporates a large depressed-arched doorway with a keyblock, located on the left side near the house. A further barn door is positioned to the right, accompanied by flanking slits and a square loft opening. Lean-to additions and 19th-century kennels attach to the barn’s east gable. The kennels are delineated by iron railings.
