Fairyknowe Gate-Lodge And Gate Piers, Springkell House

An earlier 19th century gate lodge and associated gate piers and quadrants were constructed circa 1880. The lodge is an asymmetrical single-story building and may incorporate a plain three-bay cottage. Two plain, recessed bays are located to the right, while two more bays are set forward asymmetrically on the left. The inner bay has a swept roof, and a window in the re-entrant angle faces the road, featuring five narrow round-headed lights. A wider window looks toward the driveway. The lodge otherwise has sash windows with a four-pane glazing pattern. Corniced end stacks include projecting chimney breasts, and the roof is slate. The gateway is marked by four corniced, square piers topped with ball finials; those framing the driveway are taller. Decorative cast-iron gates and quadrants with iron railings complete the structure.
